A St. James man was killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday morning in Pettis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2005 Chevy Silverado, driven by 23-year-old Collin M. Oetting of St. James, was on Route H, just south of Cherry Tree Lane, when he failed to negotiate a curve, and traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking an embankment, coming to rest in a creek on its top around 8:45 a.m.

Oetting was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:59 a.m. by Pettis County Deputy Coroner Brian Morley.

Oetting was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report. The body was taken to McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

The Chevy was totaled and towed by Don's Truck Towing.

Pettis County Deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.
