Solid Waste Processing Facility To Be Built Near Lee’s Summit
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has issued a construction permit to the city of Lee’s Summit to construct the Lee’s Summit Solid Waste Processing Facility in Jackson County.
The facility will receive and recover primarily construction and demolition waste. Collection vehicles such as dump trucks, dump trailers and roll-offs will be accepted at the facility. Any waste that cannot be recovered will be sent directly to a transfer trailer and disposed of at a landfill. The site also contains a public drop-off area and provides recycling and composting services.
The facility will be located at 2011 SE Hamblen Road, approximately 1.4 miles south of Hwy 50 and 0.9 miles east of Hwy 29, in Jackson County south of Lee’s Summit.
The department reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure that solid waste processing facilities are properly designed and constructed. Other technical factors that protect Missouri’s environment are also examined. An operating permit must be issued before the facility can accept waste.
Questions and comments regarding the proposed transfer station or the department’s role in regulating solid waste processing facilities may be sent to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Waste Management Program, P.O.
