SHS Dress Down Day Lifts Up DeFeet

Sacred Heart faculty, staff, and students dressed down to lift up DeFeet, a local organization that raises awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention. Once a month, scholars in grades K-12 who bring in $1 or more have the opportunity to dress out of uniform for the day with proceeds benefiting a charity. The Sacred Heart School Student Council (STUCO) presented Robin Balke, DeFeet vice-president, with $542 that was raised from the dress down day.

“DeFeet greatly appreciates the donation from the Sacred Heart School,” said Balke. “One in five people deal with a mental health issue at some point in their lives and suicide does not discriminate. It takes all of us working together to raise awareness, support one another in our struggles, and end the stigma by talking openly about it."

Balke said having activities in schools that promote mental health awareness/suicide prevention is a key step in helping our young people learn ways to cope and/or seek help before they get to a crisis level.

"Mental Health awareness and suicide prevention need to be talked about in families, schools, and classrooms," said Marlo Siron, SHS faculty member. "Having a day to dress down for DeFeet gives our school the chance to talk, pray and support a local organization that is making a big difference in our community."
