Here's a look at the events going on in our area this weekend.

Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got The Will is the season closer at the historic Lona Theatre operated by the Liberty Center Association for the Arts. 

Tickets are now available for this hilarious comedy at the Center located at 111 West 5th Street in Sedalia.  Show dates are May 9-11, 2014 and tickets are $12 each.  Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at the office at 111 West 5thStreet, Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by calling 660-827-3228 or via e-mail at lcaa@iland.net.

The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present a free student theatre showcase at 7 p.m. May 8-9 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in the Yeater Learning Center, Room 126, on the Sedalia campus.

The showcase will feature three short student-directed, one-act plays, a collaborative project of students in SFCC’s acting, directing and stagecraft classes. Admission is free and reservations are not required. Complimentary refreshments will be served.  Parental guidance is suggested.  For more information, call the SFCC box office at (660) 596-7387.

The Liberty/Tambo Apartments are having an open house.

The buildings are located across from the historic Liberty Park.  The open house will be on May 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will be property tours, food, and giveaways. The Fourth Annual Super Mom Walk is a 2/5K Walk/Run supporting and celebrating the Super Mom in your life!

It’ll take place on Saturday, May 10th, 2014, with Registration and Check-In beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Race begins 8:30 am. It will take place at the Missouri State Fairgrounds, in the Upper Midway by the Mathewson Exhibition Center.   This is a great event for first time walkers or runners and family members of all ages. It features a short 2K course (1.2 miles) as well as the traditional 5K (3.1 miles) course through the Missouri State Fairgrounds.  Strollers are welcome. After April 25th registration costs are $20 for individuals or $30 for families.  Proceeds will benefit the Pettis County Breastfeeding Coalition.  Online registration for non-WIC clients is available at their website or registration forms can be picked up at the Pettis County Health Center or printable off at their website.

There will be a breakfast at the American Legion in Sedalia on Saturday, May 10.

The doors open at 2016 West Main street from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They'll have sausage, eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, juice and coffee for a cost of $6 for adults, and $3 for children under the age of five. Delivery is available for two or more breakfasts. Call 827-2750.

The National Association of Letter Carriers is having a food drive.

Just leave your non perishable food donation by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will pick it up for you.

A Mother and Son Dance with the theme Arabian Nights will be held on May 10.

It’ll be held at the Fox Theater in Downtown Sedalia  from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Tickets are on sale for a cost of $30 a couple, and $10 for each additional child.  Dress code is dressy casual, no jeans, for children aged 5 to 12.  They’ll have face painting, a free 5X7 photo, DJ, classic car ride, snacks, and a balloon artist.  Proceeds benefit the Adele Ray Humanitarian Fund.

The Punchline Players of State Fair Community College will present their final spring improv comedy show at 7:30 p.m. May 10 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in Yeater Learning Center, Room 126, on the Sedalia campus.

The show is free; no tickets are required. The show is for mature audiences only.  The comics, comprised of current students and alumni, are at the mercy of the audience as they perform short scenes in the style of the television show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The group, formerly part of the college’s Theatre Arts program, is now a student club.  For more information about SFCC’s performing and fine arts go to www.sfccmo.edu/thearts or call the Box Office at (660) 596-7387 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
