Sedalia’s Weekend Events – Weekend of August 30
Here's a look at what's going on this weekend!
In memory of 9/11, the AmeriCorps VISTAs of Minority/Underserved Outreach in Sedalia would like to invite the community to give back and pay tribute to our daily first responders.
During and after the tragedy of 9/11, first responders worked tirelessly to save lives and help all people who were affected. Here in Sedalia, firefighters, police officers, and EMTs make a difference in people’s lives every day by putting their lives on the line in the case of an emergency. There are a total of 189 first responders that we will be sending packages to, including 40 EMTs, 42 city firefighters, 40 county firefighters, 47 police officers and 20 officers at the Pettis County Sheriff’s office. We are collecting donations of small travel-size toiletries and thank-you cards to put in care packages for Sedalia’s first responders from now until Monday, September 9. Currently the First Christian Church, the First United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, and Amigos de Cristo are our only collection sites, but we would like to involve as many churches as possible. Volunteers are welcome to come to the Salvation Army Corps office at 1200 E Broadway on Tuesday, September 10th to help assemble the care packages from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The Windsor Septemberfest will begin on August 29.
They’ll have the crowning of Miss Windsor and the Wee King and Queen, a baby show, Man and Woman of the Year, a cash award game, craft shows, a Color Run, Car and Motorcycle show, Parade, Tractor Show/Pull, Peddle Pull, Pie Auction, Talent Show, and a community worship. New Enrollment for the Green Ridge R-VIII School District for the 2013-2014 school year is being held between 8-3 pm at 401 W. Pettis Green Ridge.
Please bring shot record, birth certificate, social security card and proof of residency with you to enroll. A child must be 5 years of age before August 1st to enroll in kindergarten. An Open House is planned for Thursday, August 29th from 6-7:30 pm at the school. School begins on September 3rd.
The Mid Mo Motorcycle Rally is all Labor Day Weekend.
Labor Day Weekend – August 30 to September 1, 2013 at the Missouri State Fair Grounds in Sedalia Missouri. Motorcycle Rodeo on Saturday, Motorcycle and ATV Drags on Sunday. Two live bands every evening, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Family Camping Area Available! Separate Adult Camping Only Area! Entry Fees: Weekend Pass, includes all events and tent camping – $30.00 MRO Members -35.00 Non-MRO. Day Passes: $10.00 per day for all events (no camping). The Bikers for Babies Benefit will take place at Liberty Park on August 31.
There will be fun for all ages with food, games, prizes, music, a silent auction and more. Come out and support this amazing cause. The events start at 1:00 p.m.
The Hughesville Fire Department will have their annual Fish Fry and Hog Supper.
It’ll be held on Saturday, August 31 from 5:00 p.m. on. They’ll have it at the Fire Station on Cravens Street. They’ll have a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. The cost is a free will donation. For more information, call 660-826-6885.
