Sedalia Police Arrest Man After Hostage Situation at Buckner Ct.

Sedalia Police arrested one man Wednesday afternoon after a hostage situation at Buckner Court.

A press release from the Sedalia Police Department indicates that just before 1:00, officers received a tip that Travis L. Davis was at an apartment in the 400 block of Buckner Court.

Davis reportedly had an outstanding felony parole warrant and was also wanted on felony charges of resisting arrest in another incident.

Sedalia Police say officers were voluntarily let into the apartment to arrest Davis. However, he fled to a bedroom and locked the door. Davis allegedly held an adult female victim and a toddler in the bedroom, threatening the victims with a gun if officers entered the room.

According to the report, police negotiated with Davis and secured the release of the child, who was unharmed and returned to his mother. Officers continued to negotiate with Davis for approximately the next 90 minutes, asking him to release the female subject. Police took advantage of an opportunity during negotiating and arrested Davis. The woman was freed and taken to a nearby ambulance for treatment of injuries she suffered prior to police arriving.

During the arrest, Davis reportedly struggled and resisted but was eventually taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and cleared to be taken to jail.

During the incident, nearby apartments and facilities were evacuated to prevent danger to other residents. Sedalia 200 officials also assisted by coordinating children who being dropped off by school buses.

SPD thanked Sedalia 200 and area residents for their patience during the safety evacuations.
