On Monday, May 1 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Joint Communications was advised of a gunshot victim that had arrived in a personal vehicle at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Sedalia Police responded and learned that the individual was shot on M Highway just outside of the Sedalia City Limits.

Pettis County Deputies responded to the scene on M Highway, assisted by SPD and MSHP. The scene was processed and a suspect was developed through investigation. This investigation continued throughout the night until deputies obtained a location of the alleged shooter, identified as Antonio M. Hurst, 39, of Sedalia.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 3600 block of South Kentucky, and at approximately 3:05 p.m., today, May 2, that warrant was executed. Hurst was taken into custody without incident.

The following charges will be submitted to Pettis County Prosecutor Phillip Sawyer:

1st Degree Assault
Armed Criminal Action
Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Potential additional charges may follow

He had an active felony warrant out of Pettis County for Theft of an Automobile with a bond of $7,500 at the time of arrest.

"I might add, as this comes up often. 1st Degree Assault in this case is a Class A Felony. Those who will say it should be attempted murder need understand that by Missouri law, that is a lesser charge and is a Class B Felony," commented Sheriff Brad Anders.
