Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports For May 16, 2023

Early Sunday morning, the Pettis County K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of West 2nd Street and Winchester Drive. During the stop, the front seat passenger was identified as Anthony Lamar Melton, 35, of Sedalia. Melton was discovered to have warrants for his arrest from Pettis County for Failure to Appear on original charges of Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle. The driver, identified as Cornell Staten, 38, of Sedalia, was found to have a Probation Violation warrant from Cass County on original charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Both Melton and Staten were arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Melton was given a cash only bond of $541.00, while Staten was given a bond of $5,000 cash only.

The Pettis County K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop Saturday night in the area of M Highway and McGee Road in Pettis County. During the stop, the driver, who was identified as Patrick Neil McAulay, 31, of Overland Park Kansas, was found to be in possession of a firearm. The firearm was identified as one that had been stolen from the Kansas City Police Department in 1967. McAulay was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending the filing of charges of felony Stealing, with bond set at $7,500 cash or surety.

On the evening of May 6th, Pettis County Deputies took a stealing report from the 25000 block of Goodwill Chapel Road. The theft occurred on the morning of May 5th. The suspect has been identified, and charges are being sought with the prosecutor.
