Wednesday morning, Deputies conducted a warrant check at a residence in the 400 block of Walnut Avenue in Smithton. The suspect was located and arrested for an active Failure to Appear warrant from Pettis County. The warrant was issued in February of 2024, after an investigation into an incident in November of 2023. In the documentation of the original proceedings, Officers had observed a silver Ford F150 traveling north on Engineer Avenue. The driver was driving in the middle of the roadway. The Officer activated emergency flashing lights, and the truck stopped about two blocks later. Officers made contact with the driver and two other passengers in the vehicle. The front seat passenger was observed to be holding his hand over an open Dr. Pepper can, which was in the center console. After deploying K9 Cav, the presence of narcotics was detected in the vehicle. A tin foil piece with a black substance, an empty jar with an unknown substance inside, as well as the Dr. Pepper can (which had two straws and tin foil inside), were tested for illegal substances. Fentanyl was detected after a field test. The warrant was served in May of 2024, in a story KSIS previously reported.   After posting bond at that time, another Failure to Appear warrant was issued in August of 2024. Matthew Thomas Sprinkle, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for his FTA warrant on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.
