New COVID Booster Available at Pettis County Health Center Starting September 20
Pettis County Health Center is scheduled to receive the new COVID booster vaccine during the week of Sept. 12.
The first clinic where the vaccine will be available is on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Clinics are held on Tuesday from 9-5:15. There is no cost for the vaccine. If there is an increased demand for the vaccine, additional clinic times will be added.
The new booster vaccine contains protection against both the original COVID virus as well as the new Omicron variant that has been the cause of illness for most of 2022. In order to receive the new booster, an individual will need to have received the primary immunization series (2 doses of Pfizer, 2 doses of Moderna, 2 doses of Novavax or 1 dose of Janssen (J&J) vaccine). The booster may be received 2 or more months after the last vaccine – either primary series or booster.
The current Pfizer or Moderna vaccine that is used for the primary series may no longer be given for the booster dose for anyone over the age of 12. For children under 12 years of age who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, parents need to consult with their child’s physician.
Influenza vaccine may be given at the same time as the new COVID booster. Pettis County Health Center has influenza vaccine for those with insurance, including Medicare. We are awaiting vaccine for children with Medicaid or no health insurance and adults with no health insurance.
