The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a northwest Missouri man died in a crash that occurred while a woman was blowing grass off a highway with a leaf blower.

The patrol says 75-year-old Charles Plummer, of Hale, was on a 2017 John Deere Gator, stopped on Highway JJ in Livingston County Sunday night about 1.5 miles north of Avalon, around 10 p.m.

Sixty-three-year-old Susan Bachman, of Chillicothe, was standing in front of Plummer blowing grass off the highway with a leaf blower.

The patrol says a 2007 Ford pickup, driven by 33-year-old Steven L. Wilson, of Chillicothe, hit Plummer from behind, forcing his UTV into Bachman.

Bachman was seriously injured.She was taken by Chillicothe EMS to Hedrick Medical Center, then flown to St. Luke's on the Plaza in KCMO.

Plummer was taken by Chillicothe EMS to Hedrick Medical Center, then Life Flighted to Liberty Hospital, where he later died.

Wilson was not injured.

Wilson was later arrested by the Patrol at 10:21 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injury (a Class D felony), and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident.

He was taken to Daviess-Dekalb Regional Jail for in Pattonsburg for Livingston County authorities on a 24-hour hold.
