Another Sudden Mass Layoff in Missouri Begins After Thanksgiving
The company said this move was unexpected, but another sudden mass layoff of workers in Missouri will begin shortly after Thanksgiving according to a new notice submitted to the state.
I saw this sad turn of events shared by an auto industry site called Vehicle Parts Pros. They report that Martinrea which is located in Riverside, Missouri will begin laying off 144 workers between December 6, 2024 and January 17, 2025. A WARN notice from the state of Missouri Jobs site confirms this mass layoff. Riverside, Missouri is located just outside of Kansas City.
The imminent job layoffs at Martinrea are part of many auto industry businesses downsizing this year.
The Vehicle Service Pros site says 69 will be laid off from Martinrea by December 6 and another 75 will follow by mid-January. They did not specify which automaker was cutting back resulting in the layoffs, but said "client accelerating product schedules and ending future production agreements" was the reason behind the decision to let workers go.
This latest Missouri mass layoff has sadly been just one of many that have been announced over the past few weeks. Hopefully, it will be the last for some time to come.
