Luxurious Art to Strong Baskets, Crafting Changed Over 50 Years
I don't know about you, but I admittedly don't know much about what was going on fifty years ago.
Most of that is, you know, because I'm not fifty years old yet. But I'm getting there. And I've heard stories. I remember our house in the eighties being full of fun things like homemade quilts, macrame, patchwork, and lots of rhinestones.

Of course, adults were always looking for fun stuff to do with us kids, and sometimes that meant crafts. But crafting has changed a lot over fifty years!
I did a little Google, and it turns out one of the most popular crafting activities back in 1975 was.... basket making. Basketry is a textile art that involves coiling or weaving to create baskets, hats, snowshoes, and more.
Or, you know, making a basket to put some wine in or something.
What's the most popular crafting activity today? DISCO BALL ART.
Okay, that's just an example. It's a lot more than drawing! Also known as mirrored mosaic art, this craft is popular for home decor, ornaments, fashion accessories, and bar carts.
Isn't this all just..... FASCINATING?
I Know, Tae. I know.
So anyway, what will let you explore what has been happening in the last fifty years of crafts, while also meeting crafters and learning about what's popular now? I think you know that I got this.
Yep, the Show Me Crafter's 50th Anniversary Craft Show is coming this weekend! It'll be Saturday and Sunday at the MEC Building and the Agriculture Building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. It's free, and they'll be going pretty much all day both days of the weekend.
Check it out and see for yourself! I might have to check out some of them baskets.
Craftily yours,
Behka
