A La Monte man was airlifted to a Kansas City hospital Monday night after the vehicle he was driving crashed in Pettis County.

52-year-old Jose L. Lemus of La Monte was the driver of a southbound 2008 Toyota Tundra on Route 127 at Upton Road (south of Green Ridge) at 6:09 p.m. Monday night when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned three times, coming to rest in a field, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Lemus suffered serious injuries, and was life lighted to Research Hospital in Kansas City for medical treatment.

He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the report noted.

Lemus was later arrested by the Patrol at 6:41 p.m. and charged with DWI, C&I driving resulting in a crash, driving while suspended or revoked, and no seat belt.
