I was excited to learn that Josey Records, A Dallas, Texas based record store will soon be opening a store in the Lamy Building here in Sedalia. I found out when I saw a Facebook post from the Lamy Building sharing several tenants Instagram pages and saw one from Josey Records Sedalia.

I couldn't be happier. A couple of years ago I decided to start collecting and listening to records again. At the time we were in the Quad Cities which had two great record stores I liked to frequent. One of the few disappointing aspects of living in the Sedalia-Warrensburg area is the lack of a dedicated record store.

While I have a list in my head of albums and artists I'm looking for. And it isn't that hard to hop on line and acquire those records. Part of the joy of collecting for me is browsing in a physical record store. What does the store have that may or may not be on my mental list? What do I spot that I didn't know I needed?

Take for example my last trip record shopping. I decided to head into Kansas City and check out, believe it or not, Josey Records Kansas City store. I had my mental list, with several titles I had hoped to find. I didn't find any of those, but I did spot a really clean copy of Sringsteen's "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and bought it because a couple of my friends suggested the album was worth a listen. I also found a copy of Wang Chung's soundtrack for "To Live and Die in L.A.".

Neither were albums I'd probably buy online, assuming I'd find exactly what was at the top of my mental list of music to acquire. However, both something from Springsteen and that soundtrack were sort of banging around in the back of my mental list to get some time. Browsing does that for me. When I saw each of the albums I was like, "oh yeah, that's on my list." So I got them, and like both albums a lot.

That's why I'm excited for Josey Records to open in Sedalia. It'll be nice to wrap up a work day or take my lunch hour and head over to the store, clear my head, and see what records I can come home with.

I've reached out to Josey Records via their Instagram to see if they have an opening date set. When we find out we'll pass that along. Until then, I'll anticipate the pleasure of browsing their new store.
