Juneteenth 2022 will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18 at Hubbard Park, Johnson and Missouri, in Sedalia.

Juneteenth is the oldest celebration of the end of slavery. It honors the saga of African people in the US from the slave ship to freedom.

The 22nd annual event, sponsored by the Pettis County chapter of the NAACP, and the Juneteenth Committee, will start at 2:45 p.m., with an opening ceremony at Shelter House #1.

Family Time is from 3 to 8 pm., with a cake walk, doughnut-eating contest, watermelon-eating contest, bounce house and dunk tank.

The doughnut contest is for ages 6-8 (first place $10) and 9-12 (first place $15).

Sports activities (three-on-three basketball and five-on-five soccer) will take place for all age groups from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Contact Israel Baeza at (660) 441-7727 or Nick La Strada at (660) 281-7767.

Five-on-five basketball competition will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Contact Rodney Jackson at (660) 619-4950.

Arthur Seabury and The Supermatics will perform from 4 to 6 p.m.

There will also be a Juneteenth King & Queen Contest as well.

Anthony Wilson will be the DJ for the day.

There will be Veterans Affairs representative available at the event.

A silent auction will be ongoing from 3 to 5 p.m.
