Independence Man Arrested in Benton County on Drug Trafficking Charges
On Sunday, Aug 25 at approximately 2:05 a.m., Benton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle near Highway 7 and Karr’s Park, in rural Warsaw.
After investigation and computer checks, the driver, 39-year-old Derik Ray Cantrell of Independence, was arrested for licensing issues. The motorcycle and its accompanying luggage was searched incident to arrest and inventory before towing.
Deputies recovered over 265 grams of methamphetamine possibly laced with fentanyl, two firearms, one of which was reported stolen out of KCMO, ammunition, paraphernalia and other drugs that were destined for Benton County.
Cantrell is currently incarcerated at the Benton County Jail on a $250,000 bond for several felonies, including a Class A Felony for drug trafficking.
