When I was a kid, it was cool to be rich.  I guess it still is, does that ever change? Everybody wanted to seem like their families had money.  And we weren't certainly poor, but I guess working class?  We hardly ever bought anything that was brand name.  When I was little, all I wanted was the brand name stuff everyone else had.  All of the stuff. You know, the special name brand clothes, the name brand soda, the lunch boxes, all of that business.

But now, as an adult, I realize how full of crap that is.  It's silly!  I mean, it's not like name brand stuff  tastes that much better or worse.  And really, I am willing to put it out there right now: the generic soda is often BETTER than the more expensive stuff.  I mean, I would put the generic black cherry right up there with the pricier stuff.  I don't drink soda much  (maybe twice a week) but when I do, I like the black cherry or cherry cola generic version. Sure, if you offer me a can of the other stuff I'll take it, but if I had to choose on basis of which taste I like better, black cherry all the way.

I kind of wish I could go back to my younger self and tell her that kind of stuff just doesn't matter. Those snobby girls in their leather jackets, that's not important. Go ahead and hang out with the nice kids. It's okay.  You'll have more fun with them watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail seventeen times anyway.

It's okay to be weird, little me.  And boy, you are weird in spades, and will only get weirder as you get older.  So it's perfectly fine to like the cheap stuff.  That doesn't make You cheap, it means you know what you like.

Generically yours,
Behka
