Get Creative Against the Harsh Missouri Winter – Keep Warm With Ice Melt
Well, it's not quite time yet, but it's getting there.
Yep, fall is here, which means winter is coming right up behind it. And this year, well, it doesn't look good, guys. It looks like this winter, we'll be getting it pretty bad. In fact, I checked with the Farmer's Almanac, and they say we should be prepared for some very cold, snowy weather.
The Great Lakes, Midwest, and Ohio Valley will have more than their fair share of cold and flaky weather in January. We’re forecasting a “winter whopper” for parts of the Northeast and Ohio Valley toward the end of February. In March, For the East and Midwest, for example, a late winter storm will blow in at mid-month followed by a nor’easter along the East Coast toward month’s end.
But what can you do? You're outside, it's cold. Maybe you're waiting for the Christmas parade, for example. Sure, you've got your long johns on, your hat, your gloves, but.. if it's as bad as they say it's going to be? I can just picture it. Sitting in your lawn chair... maybe the kids sitting on the curb.... or sitting on the bleachers in front of the courthouse... and what happens? Cold butt syndrome. Well, WAIT. I found something that might help. And it doesn't even have to be something you make a special trip for!
Apparently you can make your own hand/body warmers with just a few basic ingredients and a few minute's time. You get a regular size baggie, think maybe gallon size, and put in some Ice Melt. Specifically the kind that says it's calcium chloride, but I checked the two kinds I have and they're both that kind, so it shouldn't be out of the ordinary for you to have them, too. You fill up the bag a little over halfway with the stuff. Then you get a smaller, think sandwich size bag, and fill that with water. Put it in the bigger bag, seal it up good and push out all the air, you know, how Momma taught ya. Then you push on the little bag til it breaks and leaks out the water. BAM. The water reacts with the ice melt and warms you up!
Cold Butts, no more. Maybe even cold hands, no more. I particularly like this because depending on the size of the bag, it can fit anybody in the family.
You'll thank me when Santa goes by.
Chillingly yours,
Behka
