Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday night in Johnson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a southbound 2017 Dodge Journey, driven by a 15-year-old juvenile male from Sedalia, attempted to cross US 50 at Route FF at 9 p.m. and traveled into the path of a westbound 2016 Ford Escape, driven by 20-year-old Justin M. Herr of Versailles.

The Ford struck the driver's side of the Dodge, and the Dodge came to rest in the right lane of westbound 50, while the Ford traveled across the median and came to rest in the left lane of eastbound US 50.

The driver of the Dodge suffered serious injuries, while three of his passengers were also injured, including 38-year-old Katherin J. Chapin (moderate), a 15-year-old male juvenile from Concordia, and a six-year-old female from Sedalia. All were taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Herr suffered serious injuries, and was taken to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment.

All of the injured were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Both vehicles were totaled.
