The famous Lewis and Clark Trail runs through 16 states from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Kansas, the Dakotas, and of course Missouri. The 190 miles in Missouri is now an extreme road trip stopping in some of the best towns and cities in the state to have an epic family vacation and learn a thing or two. The St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, and St. Charles road tour takes you to the oldest town in Missouri, the Gateway Arch, and the largest city in southern Missouri.

If you've ever visited St. Charles the town does a really amazing job highlighting that era of American history and you can still drive on the brick road once walked on by Lewis & Clark. The whole town is a national historic district with buildings still standing from the 1800s.

A larger-than-life statue of Lewis & Clark and a statue of Daniel Boone are nearby. The picturesque downtown area features the first Missouri State Capitol and historic homes and buildings housing one-of-a-kind antique shops, restaurants and art galleries

Along the way, the 190-mile trail takes you to Altenburg, Charleston, Potosi, Sullivan/Stanton, and Eureka. But one of the stops that I am really interested in is Cape Girardeau. Its the largest city in southern Missouri and the meeting place of Lewis and Clark in 1803.

A replica of the building was constructed in 2003 as a visitor center and the focal point for the historic downtown area which is framed by a 1,100 foot long Mississippi River Tales Mural.

This road trip is really a big history lesson of Lewis & Clark but also the amazing shops and visitors destinations in each town to explore yourself. So instead of just going to one location for a family vacation, try 10 on what could be an amazing trip.
