Another man has been arrested in the continuing investigation into the murder of Clinton Police Officer Gary Michael.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced in a tweet that Jacob Johnson was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with hindering prosecution of a felony in Henry County.

"The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the murder of Clinton Police Officer Gary Michael," said Sgt. Bill Lowe, "and through this investigation we developed information that Jacob Johnson, 27, of Clinton, Missouri had lied about knowing the whereabouts of the suspect, Ian McCarthy. The Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields is subsequently charging Jacobs with hindering prosecution of a felony. Jacobs is being held at the Henry County jail on a $25,000 cash only bond."

Johnson is the third person arrested in the case. 35-year-old William Grant Noble is accused of tampering with physical evidence by throwing the rifle used in the shooting of Michael into a body of water north of Clinton, knowing that it had been used in the crime.

On Tuesday, August 8, Ian McCarthy of Clinton was arrested after a two-day manhunt. McCarthy has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Officer Michael, who was shot to death following a traffic stop in Clinton on the night of August 6.

Officer Michael's widow has also filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against McCarthy.
