On the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, several events will be held in the area on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.  These events will honor the men and women who lost their lives in the attack and the heroes who served their country in its darkest hour.

  • 9/11 Remembrance in Knob Noster – The Knob Noster Fire Department will hold their annual ceremony at the Knob Noster City Hall, located at 218 N. State Street, at 8:45 a.m. on September 11.  North State Street will be closed in the 200 Block for about one hour to honor of those that lost their lives on 9/11.  If you wish to be seated during the ceremony feel free to bring your lawn chairs, there will not be any seating available.
  • University of Central Missouri Observance of 9/11 – A remembrance ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy is planned for noon Tuesday, September 11 at the University of Central Missouri quadrangle. The event is open to everyone, and is being coordinated by the Office of Military and Veteran Services and a faculty member from the safety science program in the School of Environmental, Physical and Applied Sciences.  The ceremony will include a welcome from UCM President Charles Ambrose and keynote remarks from Larry Kay, executive director of the Missouri Veterans Commission.  Individuals who want to know more about the 9/11 remembrance ceremony should contact Delilah Nichols, coordinator of Military and Veteran Services, at 660-543-8776, or Scott Ammon, assistant professor of safety science, at 660-543-4017.
  • Sedalia Tree Planting and River Clean Up – In the spirit of those who gave their lives on September 11 and those who saved countless others, a tree planting at Liberty Park in Sedalia has been planned for 8:46 a.m. in their honor.  The tree planting will be followed by a clean up of the Pearl River area behind Save-A-Lot, located at 3040 West Broadway.  The river clean up til run from 9 – 11 a.m. and from 6 – 8 p.m.  Participants should bring gloves and boots.  For more information, call 660-221-9636.
