University of Central Missouri alumna Linda Glasgow, a third grade teacher at Nowlin Elementary School in the Blue Springs School District, has been named the 2015 Missouri Teacher of the Year by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Glasgow received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1980 and a Master of Science in Education in K-12 Mental Retardation in 1990 from UCM. She began her teaching career in 1984, joining the faculty of the Blue Springs School District in 1987.

She will be honored, along with the additional five finalists, at a banquet Oct. 26. The statewide honor will make Glasgow the Missouri’s representative for the National Teacher of the Year competition.

The No. 2 Jennies Soccer team went on the road over the weekend to face Northwest Missouri and came away with a  6-1 victory. The win improves the Jennies record to 6-0-0, while Northwest Missouri falls to 1-2-2.  The Jennies are back in action Friday evening at 7 at home against Emporia State.

Central Missouri built a 23-6 third quarter lead against No. 3 Northwest Missouri, but a late rally by the Bearcats culminated with the game-winning touchdown with just 34 seconds left. The loss drops UCM to 1-2 on the season.  The Mules look to rebound Saturday when they travel to Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Lopers of UNK at 3 p.m. at Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

Jennies volleyball remained in the No. 6 spot in third week of the AVCA Coaches Poll. UCM went 4-0 on the week with a nonconference win over Missouri S&T and went 3-0 at the MIAA/GAC Regional Crossover, defeating three schools from the Great American Conference. The four wins ups the Jens record to 12-1 on the season.
