On Friday, April 7th, the Katy Depot will host historian and researcher, Tom Rafiner, as the first installment of the 'First Fridays' program, for 2017.

According to a media release from the Katy Depot, Rafiner will present the season’s first program, Cinders and Silence, based on his book of the same title. Mr. Rafiner has researched and written two books on the effects of the notorious General Order No. 11, which installed martial law and triggered the depopulation of four western Missouri counties bordering the state of Kansas. Order No. 11 was enforced in response to the Confederate rebel Quantrill’s raiders sacking of Lawrence, Kansas in August, 1863.

Mr. Rafiner has spoken in over 45 counties in Missouri and Kansas on Civil War related topics. He was also a featured speaker at the Kansas City Public Library’s “Missouri Valley” Series in 2015.

The evening will kick-off with refreshments at 5:30, and the program itself begins at 6:00. All programs are open to the public. The Katy Depot noted, that due to shifting funding issues, a $5 suggested donation will be taken at the door.

For more information and to reserve seats, call the Depot at 826-2932.
