The 40 & 8 Veterans Group will have a Memorial Day Picnic at Liberty Park on May 29.

The picnic will begin at noon in the North Pavilion at Liberty Park.

The National Anthem will be sung by the Wesley Faithful Men, from Wesley Methodist Church. The Healing Box (Dave and CJ Dunklee) will provide music.

The menu includes, hamburgers, hot dogs or polish dogs, baked beans, chips, dessert, and soft drink, for $5.00.

A press release indicates that this is the only fundraiser the 40 and 8 has throughout the year. All the proceeds go towards maintaining certain military events around Sedalia and maintaining the World War I rail car at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Proceeds are also used to provide plaques and trophies throughout the year, to the Smith-Cotton JROTC program. Part of the money raised is used to maintain the American flags on Ohio Avenue, in downtown Sedalia.

The Memorial Day picnic proceeds also benefit the Veterans Home in Warrensburg and help to provide flags to first graders in Pettis County and surrounding counties.

Please bring your old and tattered flags for retirement.

For more information regarding the picnic, call 826-2102. The picnic will conclude around 3:00.
