If you've got an expired or damaged car seat trade it in and get a deal on a new one from this Missouri store.

I'm talking about Target's Car Seat Trade-In event happening from April 16 - April 29, 2023.

Here's the deal. If you have an old, damaged, or expired car seat bring it to Target during their Car Seat Trade-In event and receive a coupon for 20 percent off a new car seat, a new stroller, or select baby gear. The coupon must be redeemed by May 13, 2023. The store has recycled 2.19 million car seats since 2016.

An expired car seat is one that's too old to be used safely. According to Web MD, most car seats, expire between six and ten years after the manufacturing date. Many seats will have a sticker with the expiration date on it, although if there is none, consider it expired six years after it was manufactured.

Web MD says car seats have expiration dates because over time the plastics in car seats can become brittle with age and that can lead to weak points in the seat that can fail in a crash. Additionally, extreme summer and winter temperatures and sun exposure can contribute to wear and tear. Additionally, technology is always advancing, so within that six-year span, the car seat itself might not be as safe as a more current model.

It's a pretty good deal. You get that old car seat out of your house. The materials in the seat get recycled into something new. And if you still have young ones in your family that need a car seat, you get to save a few bucks on a new one.
