If you've read my stuff before, you know a few things about me.  I like cats, dad jokes, popcorn, K-Pop, The Beatles, and Blood Drives.  Blood drives are one of my favorite charitable things to write about.

It's because I've attended a lot of blood drives over the years for the stations, and they taught me why they do so many of these things and WHY they're so important.  And honestly, I'm 100% for anything someone can do to help their community without having to give up any of their own hard earned money.  I mean, I get sometimes donating money is the ONLY answer to some problems we have here in West Central Missouri.  But for some of us, money is tight.  And we want to help, but if the budget is stretched thin as it is, you gotta think of alternatives.

Bam.  Blood drive. You're helping people, but it doesn't cost you anything but maybe an hour of your time.  I know, I talk about this alot, but... it's important, guys.  Let's go. Thirty-seven percent of the population is eligible to donate blood, but only about seven percent actually donate.  That's really not a lot.  Approximately 60 percent of collections come from Blood Drives chaired by volunteers at schools, churches, organizations, and businesses.  Your donation will save the life of an individual right here, right now.  And the thing is, with the whole pandemic thing, blood is definitely needed even more than ever before.  If supplies were low a couple of years ago.... they're definitely lower now. I think I read somewhere that the pandemic really hurt for donations,  and they still haven't quite recovered.

If you have never donated blood before, you are probably wondering what you can expect. Although the actual blood draw takes only a few minutes, the entire donation process may take an hour or more.  All you have to do is sign in, they do a mini physical, and then you donate.  It's pretty simple, and you need to do it!

And now, there's a little added bit of fun added into the mix.  Check out what the Community Blood Center is going to do this year!  They're working with the Kansas City Royals to get you lookin snazzy.  If you donate blood at the next donation drive here in Sedalia... you'll get a "Welcome to the City" Royals shirt!  If you didn't catch it, "WTTC" is this year's slogan for the Royals.  Like, you remember last year's was "Bring Out The Blue"?  Anyway, you can't get caught dead in last year's shirt.  Make sure you pick up a new one and donate.

The blood drive will be on Monday, June 5th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 200 South Limit.  You can book your appointment at savealifenow.org/group.  The group code is SD.   If you have any other questions, you can call Marge at 660-827-2200.

Donatingly yours,
Behka
