If you were anywhere near St. Louis overnight Tuesday and looking up at the sky, you were treated to a huge explosion by a space rock spotted over the big city. If not, no worries. There are pics and video showing you what happened.

This was a widely-seen meteor that was reported directly over St. Louis according to the American Meteor Society website. Their map shows the direction the fireball was heading when the reports started to come in.

Joseph Y shared this incredible picture of the space rock as it exploded over St. Louis. According to the report, this meteor hit the atmosphere at around 10:25pm Monday night, February 27, 2023.

The Louisville Astronomy Society shared video from one of their cameras.

Considering how low to the ground this meteor was when it blew up, I would be surprised if there weren't some small fragments that made it to the ground. That's happened in St. Louis before.
