A 36-year-old Tipton man was arrested after a K9 reportedly alerted to the presence of drugs during a traffic stop in California, Missouri.

According to the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle was stopped for a registration violation on September 18. Authorities say the driver acted suspiciously and they requested consent to search the vehicle, which was denied. The K9 unit was then called to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle.

After the K9 gave a positive alert, a search was conducted and deputies reported finding methamphetamine. Kenneth R. Hemlin was taken to the Moniteau County Jail for possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $40,000.
