Tim Thomas Brings Improv Comedy To Jeff City
As an actor and a director in my spare time, I am here to tell you that there is not a greater feeling than being on a stage and be able to make people laugh. Several years ago while I was living in Columbia, I was involved with Columbia Entertainment Company. At one point, I joined their Board of Directors and one of my ideas was to find a way to attract more people to the theater, was to create an improv group. This would be similar to the television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? The actors make up all of the dialogue on the spot, with suggestions from the host and the studio audience.
I had some improv training in college as well as being in an improv group after my schooling was finished. So I pitched the idea to the Board, and they went with it. There were no royalties to worry about, so we set up auditions and I got a cast. That is where the Off The Cuff Improv Group started.
My goal when I created the group was for this to not just be a one off performance. I thought it would be a great way to raise money for other theaters in Mid-Missouri and West Central Missouri. My group performed for Talking Horse Productions in Columbia, Capital City Productions in Jefferson City, and I am excited to be bringing my group back to Scene One Theatre in Jefferson City. Maybe the Liberty Center For The Arts in Sedalia will be our next stop.
All of these theaters are non-profits and I am a big supporter of the arts. If we are able to raise some money for them, and make people laugh, then it is a win-win for me. I encourage you all to make a road trip next weekend to our state capital and join us at Scene One. You will be able to purchase alcohol, we do a clean show, and you will recognize many games from the TV show. I have lined up a few special guests as well. All the details you need are on the flyer above. Cash or check only for admission. I promise that after the show, you will leave with a smile on your face.
