The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education on Monday night approved the promotion of three current staff members to assistant principal roles at Smith-Cotton Junior High, effective July 1.

Pat Pyle, currently the assistant principal at Heber Hunt Elementary, started in the district as a paraprofessional in 2011. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Methodist University in 2013 and a master’s in education administration from William Woods University in 2020. He moved from being a para to an elementary teacher at Washington Elementary in 2013, then went to Sedalia Middle School as a special education teacher in 2016. He started his current role at Heber Hunt in 2020.

Ashley Raetz earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2007 and a master’s in teaching from the University of Central Missouri in 2010. In 2012, she received a specialist degree from William Woods. Raetz started in Sedalia 200 as a junior high science teacher in 2008 then moved to Smith-Cotton High in 2014 in the role of instructional coach. She has been an instructional technology specialist at the high school since 2019.

Brian Foster will serve as both an assistant principal and as the junior high activities director. He holds a bachelor’s degree (2000) from the University of Central Missouri and a master’s in education administration (2020) from William Woods. He came into the district in 2000 as a junior high social studies teacher and has worked as a physical education teacher since 2020.

Ashleigh Noland, the incoming principal of Smith-Cotton Junior High, said selecting her team was a tough decision.

“I relied heavily on the panel that helped with the interview process and we ultimately picked three individuals who we thought would make a strong team and would best support the needs of the junior high building,” Noland said.

“Mr. Pyle has previous administration experience as well as experience with special education, so he will be a huge asset to our special ed coordinator and staff. Ms. Raetz is a former science teacher as well as an instructional coach who has worked closely with technology. She has a great instructional background and has gained the trust of our staff through her work with instructional technology. Mr. Foster has done an excellent job building rapport with our students as well as our staff, and I know that he will continue that in his new role as assistant principal. He will also play a large role in our sports programs since his role will be part assistant principal and part athletic director,” Noland stated.
