Three Juveniles Arrested in Connection With Simon Homicide

The Sedalia Police Department has taken three juveniles into custody in reference to the homicide that occurred just before 3:30 a.m., on Friday Dec. 10 at 1815 South Kentucky Avenue.

Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Crime Resolution Unit have been working diligently with the Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Pettis County Juvenile Office.

Many of the leads, legal processes, and interviews have been outside of normal business hours and the SPD greatly appreciates the dedication and assistance that both county offices provided during the investigation.

Although the investigation will continue over the next few weeks as detectives continue with peripheral leads, significant progress has been made on the case.

SPD detectives uncovered that three male juveniles, ranging in age from fifteen to sixteen years old, went to 1815 South Kentucky Avenue on Dec. 10 in an attempt to burglarize the home.

The juveniles made entry through the back door and were confronted by the residents. During the ensuing scuffle one of the residents, Tylar Simon, was mortally shot.

The other resident, Nolan Simon, was assaulted. Detectives learned that at least one of the juveniles was familiar with both the home and the residents.

After the shooting, all juveniles fled the scene. SPD detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and processed the crime scene for evidence.

Over the weekend, detectives followed up on several leads and spoke to witnesses, which led to search warrants being served in the 1900 block of South Missouri Avenue, the 1800 block of South Harrison Avenue, and the 500 block of South Kentucky Avenue. Detectives located two suspects during this time, taking them into custody where they were transferred to juvenile authorities.

During the early morning hours on 12/15/21, the Crime Resolution Unit obtained information regarding the whereabouts of the third juvenile who fled to the Kansas City area in hiding. CRU detectives coordinated with the Career Criminal Unit in Kansas City and the juvenile was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives also determined throughout the course of the investigation that one or more of these juveniles, in a combination thereof, committed the following burglaries:

• Chrome Cutz: 1716 West 9th Street on 11/18/21.

• Sunkissed Tanning Salon: 1716 West 9th Street on 11/18/21.

• Kehde’s BBQ: 1915 South Limit Avenue on 11/20/21
