Thousands Making ‘Pilgrimage’ to Chicago to Honor the ‘Rat Hole’

I simply do not understand, but that doesn't change the fact that literally thousands every day are making a pilgrimage to Chicago, Illinois to honor 'the rat hole'. This is really a real thing.

Have you not heard of the 'Rat Hole' in Chicago? Then you obviously haven't been on X (aka Twitter) lately. You'll see numerous people sharing pictures and videos of this hole in a Chicago street.

Where is the 'Rat Hole' in Chicago?

The Sun says it's at the "south side of the 1900 block of West Roscoe Street". Now that you know the "where" question, the next one to address is "why" and there is no clear answer to that one, but one theory appears to be the most popular.

As we've shared previously, Chicago has been named the city most infested by rats for like a gazillion (actually 9) years in a row. The hole in Chicago was apparently created years ago by one of the Windy City's many rat citizens when the cement was wet. The little critter got temporarily stuck then ran off to do rat things and now his 3-D image is a Chicago street icon.

Hoodline says that this rat effigy on a Chicago sidewalk "sparks joy". That "joy" is causing visitors to drop coins and/or tokens into the rat hole.

We're only a few days in and already 2024 is starting to reveal its weirdness. All I can say is if it takes a rat imprint on a Chicago sidewalk to make you happy, all power to you. Whatever floats your boat is fine with me.
