Is there anybody that likes the Westboro Baptist Church?  Other than themselves, that is. They're so exaggerated it's almost comical.  It's like they're the baddie in a good old fashioned 80's wrasslin' match. I could totally imagine them running around with a folded chair, ready to hit somebody.

I don't think I have to explain who they are to you, I'm pretty sure you know. They hate just about everyone and do it in "The Name of God".  Although I'm not sure which God they're talking about, doesn't sound like the one I was raised with.  They decided to hold a protest here in Sedalia yesterday, one at Smith Cotton, and one at State Fair Community College.  Why,  I have no idea.  I heard they go to little towns like ours as basically a fundraiser.  They go there, protest just to protest, and hope someone shoves them or gets in contact with them, so they can sue.

Although I hate everything that the WBC claims to be, I chose not to go to the protest.  The reason why is pretty simple.  I'll give you an analogy.  We've all had an ex that kinda didn't want to go away, right?  Or a friend who couldn't take a hint? This is like that.  If you break up with someone and they keep trying to get you back, they aren't listening to what you have to say.  They're going to interpret whatever you say into what they want to hear.

"I said no."

He didn't really mean that.

"I don't want to see you anytime soon."

So she does want to see me, just not soon.

You see what I mean? It doesn't matter what you say, they're not going to listen.  If someone is being that way, you could be the clearest person in the world and they would never understand, because they don't WANT to understand. They want their needs to be met, and they don't care how they get it.  And if it keeps going on, then it turns into something negative.  Like an ex who decides that if you don't love them, they're going to be terrible to you to make them hate you - because even if you're hating them, you're still thinking about them.

And that's the key for me.

I believe WBC does this kind of terrible stuff for attention and  money.  They want you to hate them. It gets them in the news.  Heck, to some extent it works, I mean, look at this blog. But just like a bad ex that won't go away, if you don't give them any attention, they have no choice.  If you ignore your ex and say nothing to them, they have nothing to misinterpret, nothing to manipulate, nothing to twist into what they want to hear. The only message sent is that you are not on their mind.

That's the way I feel groups like WBC will eventually end.  I don't want to say ignoring a problem is the way to solve it, but I don't think feeding into it will help.  Another analogy! Like that two year old you know who is currently having a tantrum and flailing on your living room floor.  Is giving them what they want the answer?  No.

Well, that's how I feel about it anyway.  What do you think?  Did you go to the protest?

Tantrumingy yours,

Behka
