State Fair Community College will be the location for Country Music Television’s (CMT) free concert on August 10th featuring rising CMT artist, Courtney Cole.

According to a recent press release, the event promotes CMT’s Empowering Education initiative and will be in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) is coordinating the event with CMT, which is one of 10 free concerts that will take place this year across the country.

The event will start with a Resource Fair at 5:30 p.m. around the Davis Center’s walking track. Representatives from SFCC and seven other community colleges will be on hand to answer questions about their programs, services and financial assistance.

The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. with local band Bluestem as the opening act. Trenton Scott, Bluestem’s lead vocalist, is an SFCC graduate. Cole’s recent single hit the number 1 spot on Taste of Country’s Top 10 Countdown, and she was named one of CMT’s Next Women of Country. She ended 2015 as the opening act on Miranda Lambert’s Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars tour, and this year she will be the opening act for Lambert, Kenny Chesney and Thomas Rhett.

Tickets are free and can be picked up in Admissions and Outreach in SFCC’s Hopkins Student Services Center or at the door Aug. 10. Tickets also may be reserved online at www.missouricolleges.org. Concessions will be available.
