St Louis Cardinals Duo Forfeit Lots Of Money Because Of Vaccination Status

Remember not that long ago when 10 Kansas City Royals players could not travel to Toronto Canada to play the Blue Jays because they were unvaccinated?  Well that didn't go over very well with their fans.  The Royals are not in a pennant or playoff race, but St Louis is.

The teams all star players Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, will not be traveling to Toronto Canada to battle the Blue Jays, because of their vaccination status.  Despite all of the information provided to them, they have chosen to not get their vaccine.  The teams backup catcher Austin Romine isn't vaccinated either and also can't travel.

It will cost them a fair amount of money.

Goldschmidt, Arenado and Romine  will forfeit a combined $637,163 in pay in accordance with the terms of MLB's collective bargaining agreement. The AP reports that Arenado will lose $384,416, Goldschmidt will lose $241,758 and Romine will lose $10,989. You can read more HERE.

The team is currently 2nd in the division and two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers.  Their best chance in the playoffs will probably be to win the division.  If they do not, they will be in the Wild Card, and right now they do not have as many wins as the Padres or the Braves, and they only have 1 more win than the Phillies.  If their two best players can't play in games against another potential playoff team, it could hurt the team in more ways than one.  Not only are they giving up money, but if they get matched up in the post season, will they sit out the games because they refuse to get a free shot in their arm?

Whatever their reasoning is, this is being a bad teammate.  If the team loses some games in Toronto without their best players, and miss out on the playoffs by a game or two, Cardinals fans might point at these two.  Hope it was worth losing the money in their wallets and hurting the fans who may have wanted to see them.
