The Sedalia Pettis Amateur Radio Klub, or SPARK, will hold its annual Field Day Exercise at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3700 W. Broadway, from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The idea behind the exercise is to make as many HAM radio contacts as possible across the US, using only 100 watts.

“We do this to practice communication skills that would be needed in case of emergencies when all other forms of communication would be shut down,” according to a press release.

Ham radio operators will be on scene to explain the operations and answer all questions.

The event is open to the public, and everyone, including those interested in getting their amateur radio license, is encouraged to attend.
