I understand the "Shop Local" theme. It should be the first thing you think of when you live in small towns and/or rural areas. It makes all the difference in the world when you spend your hard-earned dollars at the local stores, but what do you do when you try and just can't find what you're looking for?

I'm 100% behind the local shopping theme. These are the stores that help support causes that are going on in our hometown. Whether it's placing an ad in a local school yearbook, (do they do that anymore?) or sponsoring a kid's ball team. It's your local business that steps up to help...when they can.

Sometimes finding that particular gift is hard to find in town. Such was the case for me yesterday. I set out in the afternoon after I left the station to find a gift for my wife. Now due to the fact that she may see what I'm writing, I can't be specific on the gift but I can tell that it's an item that I was hoping to find at a store in Sedalia. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

I went to five different stores and unfortunately, none of the stores had what I was looking for. They had similar items but not what I really wanted. I had to jump on the computer last night and order online to get the gift. Luckily, for a few dollars more, it's guaranteed to be here before Christmas.

So it's back out with others as I try to finish up my shopping for gifts locally. I hope you take a gander at your list and maybe take a few extra steps and/or minutes to look for that special gift locally.
