On Thursday, Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond announced his intent to resign from office one day before the end of his term.

Sheriff Bond submitted his resignation letter to the Pettis County Commission Dec. 17, and his resignation will become effective Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Bond has accepted an offer of employment and will begin his new job Thursday, Dec. 31.

“It has been both and honor and a privilege serving the cirizens of Pettis County for the past 16 years as Sheriff, and 34 years in local law enforcement,” Bond said in his letter.

“I appreciate the community's support of me and my staff over the years, and ask for that to continue for the Sheriff's Office under the new administration,” Bond concluded.

Pettis County Sheriff-Elect Brad Anders defeated Bond in the Nov. 3 general election.

Anders, running as an Independent, ended up with 50.84 % of the vote, while Republican Bond had 48.98%, or 9,485 to 9,138, a difference of 347. There were 32 write-in votes for sheriff.

An appreciation reception for Bond and his family was held at the Fox Theater in downtown Sedalia on Thursday.
