Sedalia Police Reports For January 23, 2023

Early Saturday morning, Officers responded to the Casey's store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard, for a report of a disturbance. When Officers arrived, they discovered the subject involved had a Pettis County $7500 cash or surety warrant for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Intoxicated. The subject also had two summonses from Benton County on original charges of Failure to Wear a Seat Belt and Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle. When Officers arrived, and attempted to arrest him, he resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, Officers were able to subdue the suspect and place him into handcuffs. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Larry David Hopkins Jr., 51, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of felony Resisting Arrest, felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Hopkins was also booked on his warrants.

On the night of January 22nd, a motor vehicle accident was reported in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Grand Avenue. After investigating the accident on scene, it was determined a vehicle left the roadway, striking a street light pole. The striking accident caused disabling damage to both the pole and the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in a nearby drive way and the occupants fled from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and MoDOT was contacted to assess the damaged light pole.

Late Friday night, Officers stopped a car in the area of South Grand Avenue and West 32nd Street for speeding. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated by drugs. Hannah Cassels Meyer, 25, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Meyer was taken to the Pettis County Jail to be booked for DWI and Speeding. Meyer was released pending state charges.

Saturday morning, a truck was stopped at South Grand Avenue and West 10th Street for failing to maintain its lane and for making an improper turn. Jonathan Derrick Shellhart, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Shellhart was taken to the Police Department, where he was processed and released to a sober person with a municipal citation for DWI.

Saturday night, Alexandra J. Bohannon reported a vehicle stolen from the 300 block of East Chestnut Street. Bohannon wished to pursue charges.

Sedalia Police stopped an SUV early Sunday morning in the area of South Kentucky Avenue and West Broadway Boulevard because it was weaving and failing to maintain its lane. After investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. David E. Wright, 55, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for DWI. Wright was then taken to the Police Department for processing and released to a sober person with a municipal citation for DWI.

On the night of January 17th, Chandra Younce turned in a found cell phone to the Police Department. The phone was found in the 1000 block of Thompson Boulevard. The cell phone was placed into evidence as found property.

Officers performed an investigative traffic stop early Sunday morning on a silver Toyota passenger car, as the registered owner of the vehicle showed a revoked driver's license. The traffic stop took place in the area of East Main Street and South Ohio Avenue. Officers spoke to the driver, who was the registered owner. Officers then checked his information with Dispatch, which showed his status was revoked. Isaiah Blane McNeil, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released on a state charge of Driving While Revoked.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the Wal-Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a theft report. Officers spoke with asset protection, who stated a woman came into the store and used old receipts to do a fraudulent return. The suspect left with gift cards for the items she did not pay for. The suspect has not been identified.

Saturday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of South Quincy Avenue and West 4th Street. As a result of the stop, the driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Suspended. Juan M. Marcos Herrera, 30, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released to a sober adult.

Sedalia Police responded to the Break Time store, 101 Rebar Road, Saturday night for a report of trespassing. The suspect had just been issued a Trespass warning for the store, and came back onto the property as soon as law enforcement left. Jessie James Snell, 35 of Versailles, was placed under arrest for Littering and Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Snell was taken to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Friday evening, a subject came in to the Police Station lobby to document unusual happens inside their residence in the 800 block of West 5th Street. Information was collected and a report was taken for documentation purposes.

Sedalia Police met with Tara Davis Friday evening to report a theft from their vehicle. Davis stated that sometime during the day, their unlocked vehicle was entered and a purse with contents was stolen. Davis could not determine a time frame, or location of the theft.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the Central Missouri Podiatry Inc, 519 East 13th Street, for a subject trespassing. On arrival, Officers met with the suspect next to the building. The building owner asked the subject to leave the property, as he believed she was disrupting his business. The subject refused. Betty Jo Gillespie, 73, Homeless, was arrested for Trespassing in the 1st Degree. Gillespie was taken to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Friday morning, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Warren Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance. On arrival, contact was made with both subjects involved. A primary physical aggressor was determined. Jeremy G. Hood, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree and transported to the Pettis County Jail.
