Sedalia Police Reports for August 30, 2021

On Sunday night at 11:59, Sedalia Police responded to the 900 block of South Vermont for a report of a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they entered the front door and located the male suspect in the kitchen. He was taken into custody without incident. 51-year-old Daniel N. Schnack of Sedalia was charged with 1st degree burglary and six counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

On Sunday night, Sedalia Police took a missing person report at 1506 W. Broadway. The complainant stated that a female juvenile had not returned home. The juvenile was entered into MULES as missing.

On Sunday at 2:34 a.m., Sedalia Police took a theft report in the 700 block of W. 4th. The complainant said a juvenile stole her wallet. The juvenile was located, identified and referred to the Juvenile Office.

On Sunday evening, Sedalia Police took a property damage report in the 300 block of East Cooper. The complainant said that an unknown subject had thrown a mailbox through his window on the back of his house. The suspect then ran away. Estimate of the damage was around $600.

On Sunday at 1:41 a.m., Sedalia Police observed a pickup on West Broadway with a non-working brake light. A traffic stop was conducted at 9th and Moniteau. Upon contact, the officer detected the odor of intoxicants on the driver's breath. Investigation revealed that the driver, 33-year-old Nathan Joseph Elmlinger of Pettis County, was intoxicated. Elmlinger was arrested and taken to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his blood alcohol content to be above .08. Elmlinger was then transported to the Pettis County Jail for a 12-hour hold. A request for Driving While Intoxicated was submitted to the prosecutor.

On Sunday night at 11:44, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 200 block of W. 6th for a disturbance. The complainant stated that her nephew hit her in the head. The subject was located and arrested. 32-year-old Makaa Ruben of Sedalia was taken to the Pettis County Jail for a 24-hour hold. A request for the charge of 3rd degree Domestic Assault was submitted to the prosecutor.

On Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m., Sedalia Police took a burglary report in the 400 block of Albright. The victim said he ex-boyfriend broke into her apartment. The suspect was gone upon arrival. No arrests had been at the time of the report.

On Sunday evening, Sedalia Police responded to 505 W. 4th for a report of a home invasion. Upon arrival, contact was made with a subject with an altered mental state who was in possession of a firearm. The firearm was seized for safekeeping, and a mental health referral will be completed.

On Sunday at 5:28 a.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a gray pickup truck near 15th and Center for improper lane use. Contact was made with the driver and the officer explained the reason for the stop. A computer check of his license revealed that 50-year-old Manuel Iowanes of Pettis County was driving while suspended. Iowanes was arrested and taken to the Sedalia Police Department, where he was fingerprinted and released with an Oct. 11 court date.

On Sunday afternoon, Sedalia Police conducted a warrant check at a hotel in the 3400 block of W. Broadway. 46-year-old Paul A. Bogle of Sedalia, was wanted on five FTA warrants out of Barry County. He was also allegedly in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Bogle was taken to the Pettis County Jail.

On Sunday at 1:23 a.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a silver SUV at Broadway and Missouri for a burned out headlight. Investigation revealed that the driver, 34-year-old Kevin Lawrence Lentz Butler of Sedalia, was intoxicated. Butler was arrested for driving while intoxicated, taken to the SPD, then on to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked.

On Sunday at 3:12 a.m., Sedalia Police stopped a car near 3rd and Park for speeding. Items of contraband were found inside. They were seized and transported to the SPD to be disposed of.

On Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m., Sedalia Police took a theft report from a man who said that someone used his credit card number to make three purchases at WalMart. The total amount stolen was $841.

On Sunday at 3:22 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to 633 E. 16th in regards to request an agency assist from the Department of Social Services, Children's Division. A report was completed to document the incident.

On Sunday at 1:54 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to 1003 E.13th for a disturbance in progress. After investigation, 37-year-old Christopher Dean Klein was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail for a 24-hour hold, pending the formal filing of charges for 3rd degree domestic assault.

On Sunday, Sedalia Police responded to a disturbance in progress at 2239 East Broadway. The incident was documented in a 12-hour log.

On Sunday at 6:22 a.m., a Sedalia Police officer was performing a check at Sedalia Middle School, 2205 South Ingram, when he noticed an unoccupied vehicle on the lot. A computer check showed the vehicle was registered to an owner in Columbia. The windows were down and the officer observed a large hunting knife on the passenger seat, as well as smaller hunting knife on the floorboard. Further investigation revealed drug paraphernalia in plain view. Due to the dangerous weapons and drug paraphernalia located on school grounds, the vehicle was towed from the parking lot. During an inventory search, more drugs and paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. At the time of the report, the owner of the vehicle had not been located.

On Sunday at 12:49 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to the 1100 block of East 11th for a disturbance. The caller said he was assaulted by his girlfriend. It was determined that the female was the primary aggressor. 37-year-old Lacey R. Battles was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail for 3rd degree domestic assault.

Sedalia Police took a theft report in the 500 block of South Grand on Sunday afternoon. The theft occurred between 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A hammock valued at $200, was stolen from the complainant's yard.

On Saturday at 4:04 p.m., Sedalia Police took a report of stolen license plates in the 2800 block of E. 12th. The plates were on a vehicle that had previously been stolen and recovered.

On Saturday at 10:19 p.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on an SUV at 4th and Kentucky for moving violations and improper registration. Investigation revealed that the driver, 37-year-old Darnell Johnson of KCMO, was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for DWI, taken to the SPD and then released with a Municipal summons for DWI with a Oct. 25 court date.

On Saturday at 11:18 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the 1600 block of West 3rd. A computer check revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Kansas City in April of 2019. The vehicle was recovered and there is no suspect information.

On Saturday at 1:17 a.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop near Broadway and Winchester on a vehicle that was failing to maintain its lane and swerving. The officer noticed the odor of intoxicants on the driver's breath, and 38-year-old Esteban Lozano Jr., of Brownsville, Texas, was arrested and taken to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his blood alcohol content to be above .08. Lozana was issued a uniform traffic ticket for driving while intoxicated, with a Nov. 8 court date.

On Saturday just after 8 p.m., Sedalia Police were flagged down by a citizen at Main and Missouri for a theft report. The complainant said that his bike and phone were stolen. The value of the stolen items was estimated at $500.

On Saturday morning at 10:37, Sedalia Police responded to a call about a suicidal subject staying at Motel 6, 3402 W. Broadway. The subject was not located and report was completed.

On Saturday at 12:03 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to 110 South Harding on a domestic disturbance no longer in progress. Two parties were involved, but neither had visible injuries. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined, and a 12-hour log was completed.

On Saturday at 1:45 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to the Emergency Department at Bothwell Regional Health Center reference a domestic assault with a knife that occurred in the 500 block of North Stewart around 10:30 – 11 a.m. that same day. The victim had a severe laceration to their arm. State charges of 2nd degree domestic assault and armed criminal action were referred to the prosecutor.

On Saturday at 12:49 a.m., Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle check at 25th and Washington on a vehicle with no license plate lights. A computer check revealed that the passenger, 19-year-old Alexander L. Peake of Sedalia, was wanted on a Pettis County warrant. He was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked.

On Friday night at 8:30, Sedalia Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of South Brown. Upon arrival, officers identified a subject with several warrants for their arrest. Police arrested 44-year-old Carrie Lynn Wilcox of the address and transported her to the Pettis County Jail.

On Friday at 7:13 p.m., Sedalia Police took a report in the 2100 block of South Harrison involving identity theft. The unidentified suspect was using the victim's identity to access bank accounts. Statement forms and bank transactions were collected for the investigation.

On Friday night at 10:38 p.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop at 16th and Osage on a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the roadway. A witness said the car was “all over the roadway.” The driver, 33-year-old Edgar Cuc Cucul, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, driving without a valid license, forgery and ID theft. He was taken to the SPD, then on to the Pettis County Jail for a 24-hour hold.

On Friday, Sedalia Police took a report of found property at Vermont Park, 14th and Vermont. Someone found a pair of flip flops in the playground area. The flip flops were entered into evidence.

On Friday afternoon at 3:13 p.m., Sedalia Police made contact with a subject known to have a warrant near the parking lot at 318 W. Broadway. A computer check revealed that 30-year-old Dakota Skye Criner of Sedalia was wanted on a Pettis County warrant with a $122 bond. He was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked on the warrant.

On Friday around 2 p.m., an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 24th and Kentucky for failure to signal. The vehicle failed to yield, and continued south on Kentucky at a high rate of speed. No pursuit was initiated due to traffic conditions at that time of day.

On Friday at 3:40 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to 1212 E. 16th on a physical disturbance in progress. There were no reported injuries, and police could not determine a primary physical aggressor. The incident was document in a 12-hour log.

On Friday at 9:06 a.m., Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop at Boonville and Watson. The driver, 37-year-old Tabitha Barbour of Sedalia, was wanted on a warrant from the St. Charles Department of Corrections. Barbour was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was booked. Bond was set at $340 with a court date to be determined.

On Aug. 25 at 2:32 a.m., Sedalia Police was investigating a motor vehicle accident at Broadway and Ohio. One officer made contact with a subject trying to leave the area on foot. The individual was identified by witnesses. Investigation revealed that the subject, 32-year-old Donald E. Cunningham of Smithton, was intoxicated and had a revoked license. Cunningham refused to provide a breath sample and a search warrant was obtained and the suspect was transported to the Pettis County Sheriff's Office. While being searched at the jail, Cunningham was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a pipe. Charges of driving while intoxicated persistent offender, driving while revoked, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia were submitted to the prosecutor.

On Aug. 24 at 10:25 a.m., Sedalia Police took a report in the lobby about possible drug activity. Information was passed on to the Drug Enforcement Unit.

On Aug. 9, Sedalia Police made contact with a subject at 2407 W. 2nd Street Terrace who was wanted on two FTA warrants out of Sedalia on original charges of driving while revoked and speeding. 23-year-old Chase A. Hayworth was located, arrested, and taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked on the warrants.
