In a recent press release from the Sedalia Police Department, a Citizen Police Academy will be held, starting September 13, 2016. This is a great way for residents of Sedalia to learn about the many facets of what a police officer does.

The Citizen Police Academy will be held at 6:00 in the evening, every week, for 10 weeks. Each session will last 3 hours. The topics to be covered include: hiring and training, handling disturbances, criminal investigations, building searches, drug investigations, and more.

The academy has a “hand on feel” to it and is very interactive. Members can participate in a ride-along with a police officer, and attend a day at the range, as well. Graduation will put the members in the roles of police officers and investigators, to process a staged crime scene.

There is no cost to attend the Citizen Police Academy but space is limited to 20 people.
