Sedalia Police Arrest Man In March 2 Shooting Incident
On March 2, Sedalia Police responded to 1011 S. Harrison Ave. for a report of gunshots heard by residents in the area.
Upon officers arriving and thoroughly canvassing the area, bullet casings were located in the alley behind the home and bullet holes were located in a neighbor’s vehicle and privacy fence. Contact was attempted at 1011 S. Harrison Ave., but no one would come out to speak with officers.
It was later discovered a resident at 1011 S. Harrison Ave., Arthur Gordon Phillips Jr. – 29 years old, who was determined to have been involved in the shooting incident, had active warrants for his arrest out of Cole County, for original charges of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of dangerous drugs. The warrants provided no bond. As the investigation progressed, a search warrant was gained for the residence.
On the morning of March 25, the search warrant was served at the residence where contact was made with three adults and three juveniles. Phillips was located inside the home and taken into custody for his active warrants. A search of the residence revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia items, according to a SPD press release on Friday morning.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Phillips was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold. In addition to his warrants, state charges of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia are being sought for Phillips.
This investigation is the result of working closely with neighbors in the area to help prevent any further incidents such as what occurred on March 2. In addition to the arrests and state charges, the residence at 1011 S. Harrison Ave. was determined to be in violation of Sedalia City Ordinance 36-96, Prohibition Against Maintaining a Nuisance Property.
The residence was posted with notice of the violation, mandating the property owner resolve the violations within 60 days.
The March 2 shooting incident is still under investigation, police said.
