Sacred Heart hosted a junior high volleyball tournament that drew six schools this past weekend: Sacred Heart, Smith Cotton, Green Ridge, John B. Lange, Saint Peter and Paul, and St. Andrews.

In a three set match, Saint Peter and Paul took first place and St. Andrews took second place.

"Our Sacred Heart junior high girls played hard Friday night and Saturday morning. In pool play, the girls took on John B Lange, Smith Cotton, and St. Peter and Paul. We won two sets against John B. Lange: first set 25-19, and second set 25-18.

"We lost the second game of the night to Smith Cotton: first set 18-25, and second set 11-25. Saturday morning the girls took on a hard fought loss against Saint Peter and Paul: first set 18-25, and second set 15-25. In the bracket, the girls fought another hard loss to St Andrews: first set 19-25, second set 11-25, and third set 12-15.

"Overall, I am proud of the hard work that our junior high girls put in. Despite the losses, the girls worked together in the toughest moments and came together as a team to play some great defense and offense on the court.

"Our setters, Ava Stone and Sophie Anderson, had some great saves out of the net; Emily Tienda and Sophia Carney played some amazing defense in the back; and Emilee Jackson had some great serves in the third set against St. Andrews.

"We had a great group of teams, coaches, parents, and fans this weekend. The competition was matched well, and all the teams played hard. We even had officials compliment the school, teams, coaches, and parents, on how well everyone conducted themselves on and off the court," commented coach Kilby.
