For a limited time McDonald's is giving all of us the privilege of enjoying their McChicken Biscuits. When they come off the menu I'm not sure many of us will care.

"With the nationwide launch of the Chicken McGriddles and McChicken Biscuit sandwiches, we're giving our customers more of what they crave: mouthwatering chicken and breakfast options," said Vice President of Menu Innovation, Linda VanGosen in a press release.

Until I moved to Texas I didn't know chicken biscuits were a thing. I don't think I had ever tried one. Well in Texas, with a Chick-fil-A and a Whattaburger on nearly every corner. A chicken biscuit is what you want to get for breakfast. Whattaburger's come slathered with honey butter, and Chick-fil-A's tender chicken coated with their breading is tender enough to offset the dryness of the biscuit. And there's so much chicken on the biscuit, one is really enough to help you power through your morning.

So how does the McChicken Biscuit compare? It doesn't really hold a candle to the biscuits you can get at Chick-fil-A or Whattaburger. It doesn't even come close. That said, if you enjoy McDonald's breaded chicken sandwiches I expect your reaction will range from it's OK to it was good.

I thought the tenderness of the chicken played well with the biscuit and it didn't come across as too dry. (I avoid sausage biscuits for that very reason.) I didn't need to add honey or drink my coffee excessively while enjoying it. The chicken itself seems like the same chicken they use in their sandwiches and had that same slightly spicy bite and taste which I like.

If there's a problem with the McChicken Biscuit it's that it's nothing special. It's what I expected it would taste like if you took the chicken from the McChicken sandwich and put it on their biscuits. It's OK, but not iconic. And not as good as the ones you'll find from Chick-fil-A and Whattaburger. If I'm getting a breakfast sandwich from McDonald's, I'll probably stick with my Sausage McMuffin. It may not be as iconic as the Egg McMuffin, but it's uniquely McDonald's and no one, in my opinion, does that sandwich better.
