I admit, I've got a pretty sweet gig.  I mean, yeah, I get up early and the pay isn't astounding, but it's right up my alley.  I like reading on the internet and newspapers and such and just talking with you about it. I like writing up stuff here on the blog to talk to you about.  For the most part, we have pretty good interactions.  But I do get questions, so I thought I'd share some of them, FAQ style!

1.  Do you get free stuff?

Yes and no.  Every now and then we'll get tickets to an event, especially if a winner doesn't come and get the tickets in time.  That actually happens a lot - someone will win a prize on Monday for an event on Saturday, and just.. not come pick it up.  But everyday? No. And really, it's not like there's much to get tickets for these days.  Most big events just aren't happening.

2.  Are you a journalist?

No.  When I'm writing in the first person, I am not writing news. I know it can be hard to tell the difference in our internet shaped world.  Think of me as the Opinion section of a newspaper or something.  I may write about events and stuff, but I won't ever be the one to break news to you or anything drastically important.  I'm just trying to be entertaining.  Now if you read something I wrote on our news site for our sister station, that's different.  I would call that not necessarily journalism, but reporting. I take the reports the Police give me, and I type em up.  Not unlike writing notes during a meeting or something. It's not like I'm Bob Woodward, trust me.

3.  What time do you get up in the morning?

It used to be 4:15 a.m.  Now I get up a little later.  You get used to it.  I need the time to prepare my show. I know, it doesn't SEEM like any preparation went into it, but really, I do.  I try to have all four hours planned out before I start at 6:00 a.m.  Most of the time, that's what happens.

4.  Do you get to meet famous people?

Sometimes.  Not every day, again, but sometimes.  I've met several country stars when they came to the State Fair, and a few rock artists who also came.  Every now and then you'll do a phone interview with a celebrity.  I can't say there was anything too remarkable about any of my celebrity encounters.  I haven't met a Huge star, like Paul McCartney.

5.  Is there a media conspiracy?

No.  At least not here in Sedalia.  We don't collaborate or get in cahoots with our competition or the newspaper.  There's no attempt to bias the news, and we don't try to influence opinions politically.  The newsroom is very strict about that, actually.  I don't even know what my news director's personal political views are.  And really... if we did want to create a conspiracy we couldn't, because we just don't have the time.  I'm not sure what it's like with the other medias around town, but I know I'm doing more than I was before, and everyone here is, too.  We have too much to do to try to, you know, create an agenda, much less carry it out.

Do you have any questions about how things work at the stations? I can try to answer them!  Let me know what you think!

Employingly yours,
Behka
