National Preparedness Month Observed Locally
Today marks the start of National Preparedness Month 2016.
Shown below is the logo "Don't Wait. Communicate. Make your Emergency Plan Today."
"One of the most important items I tell people they should have is an emergency plan for the family," said Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Management Agency Director Dave Clippert.
It does 2 things, 1) It has the family gather together to talk about different scenarios and what they should do while together or apart. 2) it also helps you develop a communications plan for your family.
"Making sure each member of the family knows how to contact others during a disaster is very important. Many times when disaster strikes a community our families are apart from each other at school, work etc. Having a plan to ensure you are able to connect with each other can bring a great peace of mind. Having an out of state friend or family member that everyone checks in with is a good idea," Clippert stressed.
There are many free resources on line that can be downloaded to help make an emergency plan. This is just one example: https://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan.
