Judging by the trailer for the mid-season premiere of CMT’s Nashville, things in the fictional country music universe will be as dramatic as ever when the TV drama returns on June 1 for the back half of its fifth season. Readers can press play above to watch the recently released clip.

When the first half of Nashville Season 5 concluded in March, the show’s main characters were facing plenty of uncertainty. Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) has been laid to rest, and the storylines surrounded her death have largely been put to bed, but so many other questions — for example, who is the father of Scarlett O’Connor’s (Clare Bowen) unborn child? — remain unanswered.

In true Nashville fashion, the trailer for the show's mid-season premiere indicates that Nashville's writers have no plans on slowing the drama down. Viewers will see new relationships blossoming (i.e., Will Lexington’s (Chris Carmack) romance with Highway 65 investor Zach Welles (Cameron Scroggins)), while others (such as Juliette Barnes’ (Hayden Panettiere) ever-tumultuous marriage to Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson)) get a little more tense.

Nashville's final 11 episodes of Season 5 will also see the addition of two new characters: Rachel Doubleday will appear as Jessie Caine, a songwriter and performer whose career in Nashville never quite launched; Caine also has a son who was taken from her. Also joining the Nashville cast is Rachel Bilson, who will play Alyssa Greene, yet another Silicon Valley executive brought in by Zach to save Highway 65.

Nashville's Season 5 mid-season premiere will air at 9PM ET on June 1.
