In a report Sunday afternoon the Missouri Tigers' Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced that the football teams is pausing all football activities due to increased  positive COVID-19 test results. All football team activities have been paused through January 2.

The Tigers were scheduled to play the #15 Iowa Hawkeyes Wednesday, December 30 at the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to MU Director of Athletics Jim Sterk:

“Since concluding our regular season and conducting four rounds of tests over the last eight days, we have seen a significant increase in positive COVID-19 tests among our student-athletes, coaches and staff."

It was an exciting under the direction of first-year head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. Drinkwitz, joined Warren Powers as the only first-year Mizzou head coaches to earn bowl invitations in their debut seasons in Columbia in their first season.

The Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the SEC East by preseason pundits, but Mizzou went on to finish third in their division with a 5-5 record under the direction of Drinkwitz.

I had been a few years since the Tigers had seen seasons like it was back in 2013 and 2104. Mizzou then posted 7-1 records and back-to-back SEC East titles.

In a press release from the MU it was noted that the Tigers have now registered four-consecutive .500 or better seasons for the first time since a seven-year run from 2005 through 2011.

According to a report from Bill Pollock of the Missourinet.com:

Iowa had just resumed practices this weekend after taking a five-day pause due to COVID-19. Late last week, Sterk told me in an exclusive interview that he had expected Iowa to be ready.
